Ways to Find the Right Pet Health Insurance Company

Ways to Find the Right Pet Health Insurance Company

Pet Health InsuranceShopping may be a breeze for most people. But it really depends on what you are buying. For pet owners who want to find the suitable pet health insurance company, there are a lot of factors to consider. You will be surprised at how the policies for pets are similar to what humans have. Such policies have annual premiums. The deductibles depend on age and condition of the animals. And there are coverage plans that you can choose for the benefit of your pet.

With so many factors that you must zero into, this kind of shopping will prove harder as it seems to be. Your goal is to give your pet the best plan. Here are some suggestions on how you must go about your policy hunting venture.

1. Ask the vets. You can solicit advices and recommendations from your trusted veterinarians. They can explain to you complicated things better so that you may feel enlightened. And you will also feel more secure when you know that your choice is being used by many people and that there is someone who is professional who can guarantee for the policy’s effectiveness.

2. Choose a stable company. The business of pet insurance has been around in the United States for over 25 years. The strength of the company will also depend on their length of stay in the industry they belong to. As you ask about the available policies, you can also do a simple background check about the company’s stability. You need to make sure that your money will be handed onto the right hands.

3. Look deep into the coverage of the plan. The broader it is, the better. Choose the one that offers coverage for some chronic conditions like diabetes and other forms of allergies, dental situations and prescription drugs.

4. The company must know what they are talking about. If they are to insure your pets, they must have veterinary professionals on board their staff. This way, they will understand your concerns and needs regarding your pet. You wouldn’t want to entrust them to people who don’t know what they’ll be going through as they grow old.

5. The insurance provider must give you leeway in terms of your choice for veterinary professionals. The policy must not limit your choices of hospitals or veterinarians where you can turn your pets into when certain situation happens.

6. You must be sure that the insurance will be ready for use upon the effective date from its approval and issuance. Do not choose insurance providers that will make you wait a certain time before you can start using the policy that you have already paid for.

7. All transactions must be transparent. Make sure that the company provides you with the important information about every transaction that you have to deal with them. Ask them about everything that you want to know, the coverage, the benefits, the payment schedules and other things that you want to be clear about.

8. Choose the company that will reimburse your payments in cases when you have to cancel the policy. All your unearned premium must be given back to you in any instances wherein you have to cancel the insurance.

And these are only some of the concerns that you must take into consideration when you are in search for the pet health insurance company. Do not be shy to raise other issues as you go about the process.

Till Death Do Us Part Your Marriage to Your Macaw

Till Death Do Us Part Your Marriage to Your Macaw

When you get a Macaw, whether you realize it or not, you’ve just entered into what is in the Macaws opinion a marriage. You have just committed to that old phrase ’till death do us part,’ because in most cases, your Macaw will outlive you, providing that you obtained the Macaw as a baby, when you were an adult.

There is more to the old marriage jokes about Macaws and their owners than the lifespan of the Macaw, however. You see, in the wild, Macaws choose a mate, and then mate for life. They are very protective of their mates, and during the breeding season, they will even put on a courting show for their mate.

While the Macaws in the wild actually have a selection when it comes to mates, Macaws kept in captivity do not. If there is a Macaw of the opposite sex, in the same household, that Macaw will most likely become the birds mate. However, the bird might also see another potential mate?in you.

Macaws typically bond very closely with one individual living in the household, and they do view and treat that person as their mate for life. This, of course, could become a problem, depending on just how much the bird has bonded with you, and how much time and attention you can give him as well as how much time and attention you must give to other people or pets in the household.

Often, a male Macaw will take his mating duties quite seriously. He will prepare a nest for you although you may not fit in it. He will regurgitate food for you. He will even flirt with you. When others bestow affection on your, or threaten you, he will come either to defend that which he feels belongs to him, or to protect you.

As with any human marriage, the marriage that you have with your Macaw will see its ups and downs. There will be an adjustment period, where you get used to living with each other, and learn how to interact with each other hopefully in a positive way. There will be good times when your Macaw entertains you and you entertain him. There will be bad times when you just cannot agree, and he lets you know that he does not agree in a very loud tone of screech.

Make no mistake about it. When you get a Macaw, you are entering into the sacred bonds of marriage whether you like it or not, whether you are married or not, and even though you may not be married to a human at the moment, should you eventually become married to a human, you will still be married to that blasted bird that you adore so much.

In the grand scheme of things, when it comes to our own human marriages, we could learn a thing or two from our Macaws. They will stick it out through thick and thin for better or worse, in sickness and in health, for richer or poorer until death do you part.

why does my macaw parrot peck on everyone?

I got a 8 year old Macaw parrot from a friend last week, and he started pecking me with the bridge of his beak almost immediately. Now we are noticing him doing it to other ppl. He doesn’t seem to be trying to hurt anyone when he does this.

Answer
For one thing, everyone is new to him. What kind of macaw is it?? Some macaws are known for this behavior, especially the scarlet and the military. Don’t hurt him if he does this, just put him back on the cage. If he starts screaming or squawking for attention or whatever, just do not pay attention to him. Don’t even look at him. He will do it for attention and to get a reaction from you. They can be little stinkers and very loud. Since you just got him, hopefully you can nip bad behavior in the bud. Remember that birds need 10 to 12 hours of sleep every night. Put his cage ( or another smaller cage for sleep) in a darkened room with the cage covered and no noise. Not getting enough sleep is a big cause of bad behavior, but most owners don’t know birds need sleep just like we do. I hope I helped some Have fun with the new member of your family.

Electus Parrot

Eclectus Parrot Common Behavior Problems

Electus ParrotEclectus parrot are very special birds, and to many owners, they are often like small children. They definitely each have their own personalities, but they also have two growing stages that can be quite trying. These growing stages are similar to a human child’s terrible twos and puberty. Here is a breakdown of both of these growing stages.

The Terrible Twos The terrible twos for Eclectus parrots occurs between the ages of three and five months. It is during this time that they are generally naughty and into everything. They will essentially test the boundaries set by the breeder, the owner, or their actual parent. It is during this time that the young Eclectus parrot needs to learn who is boss (you).

It is very vital to your bird’s future behavior that you do not tolerate his bad behavior during the terrible twos. For example, you must make him do what it is that you want him to do, instead of allowing him to do what he wants to do during training sessions. This does not mean, however, that he should be punished. Essentially, you need to show him that you are dominant. During this period, experts advise that you should not let the bird sit on your shoulder, as this puts him above your eye level, which in his world means that he is dominant.

Puberty When your Eclectus parrot is about nine months old, he will start going through what is essentially puberty. Just as human teenagers have raging emotions, these birds also have raging emotions, and they look for a way to deal with them. This stage, unfortunately, can last until the bird is about two or three years old.

Of the two growing stages, this one is often the hardest for the owner to deal with, because it lasts the longest. The good news is that unless your Eclectus parrot has been demonstrating poor behavior before this period, he will grow out of it, just as most teenagers do. During this time, you may notice extreme mood swings, screaming that takes place more often, shadow boxing, and even masturbation. It is also during this time, of course, that the Eclectus parrot will start showing obvious interest in the opposite sex.

The key to getting through both of these trying times is patience just as though you were dealing with a human child. However, discipline really isn’t suggested, since the Eclectus parrot won’t understand it. Instead, encourage more appropriate behavior, and understand that your beloved bird will outgrow these awkward stages, and he will become the bird that you’ve grown to love once again.

Neon Tetra and Slimy Skin Disease

Neon Tetra and Slimy Skin Disease

Neon Tetra

Keeping your Neon Tetra healthy is the most effective way to make sure that your pet enjoys a long, productive life. There are many things that can cause disease in your Neons. Stress, bacteria, parasites, chemicals, and poor water conditions can all promote disease in your Neon Tetras. The best way that you can ensure that your pets enjoy good health is to make sure that you do everything you can to prevent disease in your pets.

The first thing that you can do to make sure that your pets have the best living conditions possible is to make sure that all the mechanical equipment is properly functioning each and every way. Check the filter systems and make sure that they are running smoothly. Check to make sure that there is a proper water flow. If you notice anything unusual, make sure that you take care of it right away. Improper water flow can cause the chemical balance in the water to be disturbed.

Make sure that you monitor the water temperature. A fluctuation in the water temperature of more than a few degrees can lead to serious health problems. If something is wrong with the temperature in your tank, make sure that you check the water heater.

Make sure that you are cleaning the tank on a regular basis. You need to make sure that you are doing at least a partial cleaning every week. A weekly vacuuming of the gravel in the bottom of the aquarium is usually enough to help keep the water clear. If necessary, make sure that you use an algae scraper in order to clean the site of the tank as well.

It is very important that you observe your fish daily. An ideal time to observe your fish would be when you feed them. Since you will be feeding your fish at least twice a day, this gives you numerous opportunities to see how your fish interact with each other and how they behave. This is also the ideal time to observe their eating habits and their appearance.
There are numerous symptoms for slimy skin disease. You will notice a gray colored slime on the body or fins. You will also notice scratching and frayed fins. You may also notice an excessive mucous coat. The cause for this disease is one of numerous species of parasites.
It is very important that you immediately isolate any fish that is showing the symptoms of slimy skin disease. This disease is highly contagious and can spread throughout your tank very quickly. Place any fish that is infected with this disease into your quarantine tank. You can treat this disease with a remedy of malachite green and frequent water changes. You can also try short term formalin and salt baths. You need to correct any poor water conditions in order to help fight this infection.
Remember that poor water conditions are often the cause of numerous skin conditions. By checking the water on a daily basis, you can avoid many problems with your fish.

Do all frozen foods cause neon tetra disease?

My redtail shark has neon tetra disease. And I’ve researched it and they say that the fish get it from tubifex worms. Which I do feed my fish. Do the blood worms and other frozen food carry the parasite that causes this fatal disease?

Answer
Tubifex worms or any other foods would only be a problem if they were fresh. Frozen foods and freeze dried foods are not carriers of any disease organisms. No need to worry that any frozen food is the cause of neon tetra disease or any other parasitic infestation actually.

Don’t sweat it and feed your fish! :)

Get Reservation In Pet Friendly Hotels

Description: Pets are an integral part of most families and usually pet owners are reluctant to leave them behind with friends or in kennels, especially when they’re traveling or when planning a family vacation. With more and more people willing to do just about anything to take their pets on family trips and the hotels eager to cash in on a market they once disdained, there are many packages and amenities designed to attract pet owners.

Pets are an integral part of most families and usually pet owners are reluctant to leave them behind with friends or in kennels, especially when they’re traveling or when planning a family vacation. So, many opt to take their pets along with them on their trips. However, having your pets along on your vacation can be a delightful experience or a complete disaster. Basically it all depends on how well you plan your vacation.

And this increasing trend among pet owners, to travel with their pets, has resulted in more number of pet friendly hotels. Nowadays, even the upscale hotel chains like Monaco hotels, Loews hotels, W Hotels, Westin hotels and The Four Seasons hotels welcome their four-legged guests with open arms.

And, pet friendly hotels accept and even pamper pets, mainly dogs and cats. However, there are some tips that can make the whole vacation a lot friendlier and easier on you as well as your pet.

Tips to Keep in Mind When Making Reservations

If you plan to stay in hotels or motels, remember to make reservations in advance. This will save you a considerable amount of time and trouble. But, when making reservations, always mention your pet. This is because some establishments don’t allow pets. But, there will always be hotels that provide pet friendly accommodation as long as they are kennel or crate trained.

Never Leave Your Pet Alone in a Hotel Room

You should never leave your pet alone in a hotel room. Pets when left alone in a strange room can turn destructive. Some hotels ask you to pay a damage deposit when you check-in in case something like this happens. Another reason why you shouldn’t leave your pet alone is that most hotels/motels owners don’t want their housekeeping staff attacked by a vicious animal when they go to clean the room. Also, there are chances that the animal may accidentally escape when the housekeeping staff opens the door.

However, if you do leave your pet alone, remember to put it in its crate or in the bathroom and hang the “Do not disturb” sign on the room door.

Amenities Offered For Pets

There are many hotels that pamper your pet with amenities, like pet room service menus (cats and dogs), lists of area pet services, food and water bowls, toys and treats, dog-walking routes, pet-friendly restaurants, grooming facilities, attractions and local veterinarians. Other facilities that can be arranged are pet sitting, dog and cat beds, videos, litter boxes and pooper-scoopers.

Some hotels go to the extent of providing such amenities as turndown service in custom beds, plush doggie robes, and even in-room doggie massages. These hotels welcome dogs as an important member of the family. However, policies at individual pet friendly hotels differ widely and can change without notice. So, always contact the hotels in advance, before you book the room, for details on their pet policy, any fees they’ll charge, and the amenities available.

For example, if your pet weighs less than 30 pounds then it’s welcome at most of the motels and motor lodges, such as Super 8 and Motel 6. However, there is no weight limit or fee for pets at the Loews hotel. Westin hotel has a 40-pound limit, while the Sheraton hotels and W hotel allow dogs that weigh up to 80 pounds.

With more and more people willing to do just about anything to take their pets on family trips and the hotels eager to cash in on a market they once disdained, there are many packages and amenities designed to attract pet owners. So, if you’re planning a getaway that includes your dog, you can get reservations in the best hotels and resorts.

So, now owners can avoid the guilt of leaving their pets behind and their dogs don’t get depressed about being left behind, as well as benefit from a change of scenery and more time spent with the family.

Another trend in recent years has been the increase in the number of hotels that are dog friendly. Pets are now being taken on travel by their owners. Your pets make a good companion on your business journeys or holiday trips. Some hotels actually are even making special arrangements and developing unique accommodations for people who are traveling on business with their pets.

Special hotels meant just for pets are coming up at numerous locations. Besides accepting dogs, some of these hotels are now beginning to take in other animal ‘clients’ also. Owners who want to pamper their pets with the best accommodation in their absence opt to make use of pet hotels which are simply improvised kennels.

Today, with pet spas, pet care has reached new heights. The best way to pamper your animal friend is to give it a day at the pet spa. Getting the best grooming services and eating the tastiest food at the pet spa is like enjoying heaven on earth for your pet. Well, you might have to cough up a hefty price to let your dog spend time at a pet spa. Since you will be spending so much on your pet, ensure that it will enjoy the services at least to some extent.

If going to a dog park locally would be more enjoyable for your dog, then you can very well forgo the spa visit and go to the park instead. In big towns, you will find new dog parks being opened regularly. Predictions by experts state that in the next five years such dog parks will be quite common all over the world.

Betta Fish

Betta Fish Four Common Diseases

betta fish

There are various diseases that can affect your betta. Most betta fish diseases are caused by poor water quality, so you can prevent many by keeping the water clean. Some of the most common illnesses include fin rot, velvet, and popeye. This article will discuss some of these illnesses.Fin Rot

Fin rot is one of the most common diseases. If you keep a betta long enough, you will probably have to deal with it at least once. This condition is characterized by the tail or fins rotting away. It can quickly become a problem if you allow the water to stay unclean too long. Although the tail or fins will grow back once treatment begins, it will take some time.

Popeye

Popeye is also one of the most common betta fish diseases. Like fin rot, it’s caused by unclean water which leads to a bacterial infection. This condition is quite easy to spot as your fish’s eyes will literally bulge out of his head. It can be disgusting the first time you see it. Popeye needs to be treated with antibiotics and frequent water changes.

Velvet

Unlike the two aforementioned diseases, velvet is caused by a parasite. It is highly contagious and can quickly spread to other fish in the tank. Affected fish will attempt to get rid of the parasite by rubbing themselves against hard objects. Other signs of velvet include rapid gill movement, weight loss, loss of appetite, and lethargy.

This illness presents a problem because it’s usually diagnosed in an advanced stage. Therefore, you would need to start treatment as quickly as possible. TO treat this condition, you will need to dim the lights, add copper sulphate to the water, and raise the temperature to 80 degrees Fahrenheit. Your fish may also have a hard time breathing. Aquarium salt will help remedy this.

Dropsy

Dropsy is one of the most serious betta fish diseases. It is usually fatal. This illness results from kidney failure which causes fluid to build-up inside your fish. You can easily spot his swollen belly. If he also has raised scales, it’s a pretty safe bet that he has dropsy. Unfortunately, there is no cure and most bettas die within a couple of weeks.

These are some of the most common betta fish diseases. If you’re new to caring for bettas, there are many more things you need to learn. So, click here to learn everything you need to know like dealing with bloated betta fish.

What kind of fish or crustaceans can live with betta fish?

I just got the 2nd beta fish of my life. It’s cute and a bright yellow (unusual, huh?). anyways, i want to spruce up my fish tank by adding some other fish to it. What kinds of fish are compatible with Betta’s?
Also let me know about shrimp, crabs, or plants
Just so you know, the tank can only hold one gallon, but I plan on moving up the scale soon.

Answer
In a one gallon, nothing, your betta won’t even be happy in there : (

In a larger tank, you can heat it, a one gallon can;t be reliability heated. Betta are tropical fish, they prefer their temps around 76-80 degrees. They can TOLERATE being cold, but don;t WANT to be cold, and just like us, being to cold for too long can lead to a whole host of health issues.

In a larger tank, with a heater and a filter betta get along fantastically with shrimp, otto cats and most sucker fish, cory cats, rasbora and platy’s. Most bottom feeders do fins with the betta’s.
Things to avoid are male guppy, molly, tetra, barbs, gourami, angel fish and other semi aggressive fish. The betta will move slower than most fish and their long fins make them a target for aggressive fish. Barbs, tetra and angel fish are fin nippers, a danger for the males fins. Gourami are a close cousin of the betta, and they will often fisht like two male betta. Long fins, like that of the male guppy often incite the male betta’s attack response, resulting in ripped fins.
Goldfish are a bad idea as well. They produce so much watse they risk the betta’s heath, thier fins will blacken and shrival as they are burned from the goldfishs waste. Also, water temps are too different for them to be truly happy.
But it can also depend on the individual males personality and temperment, some just don’t do well with other fish while others could care less.

As for plants, live is always better, as long as you are prepared to handle them. Nothing spoils the water faster than poorly cared for plants.
Plastic is a bad idea for betta as well, as they can tear thier fins, I found this out the hard way. Instead, look into silk plants, they are safe for the betta fish and look pretty realistic!

Best of Luck!

Persian Cat

persian catThe History of Persian Cat

Believe it or not, Persians are thought to be the oldest breed of cats, but at the same time, there are numerous different versions of where the Persian cat began. It is widely believed, however, in all versions that the Persian cat originated in the country that was once known as Persia, which is now modern day Iran.

The popular version of the Persian cat history is that Persians were introduced first to Italy, around 1620, by Pietro della Valle and that they were brought from Turkey to France by Nicholas Claude Fabri de Peiresc about the same time. These are documented instances, and again, they fit into all versions of the Persians history.

It is believed that Persians were introduced to Britain from France, and that before this time, they did not have the long hair that we see today. Instead, they were bred in Turkey with Turkish Angoras, which is where the long hair comes from. However, in other versions of the history, the cats were bred with African wildcats to obtain the longer hair.

There is no doubt, in any version, that Persians were always considered to be cats of high value. They were considered to be rare, and they were favored by royalty. In fact, there was a point in time where royalty were the only people who owned Persians or at the very least that Persians were only owned by people of royalty and/or wealth.

Another version of the Persian history has today’s Persians as descendants of Felis Libyca, which is actually a cat that originates from Africa and Asia. This version also has the Persian being introduced to Europe much earlier than 1620. In fact, this version has the Persian being introduced in the 1500s by the Romans and Phoenicians. This version also states that Persians were considered to be of high trade value.

We can be certain about the time that these special cats were first introduced to the United States and Canada. This occurred in the early 1900s, and from that time on, the cats gained in popularity, quickly becoming the most popular breed of cat in the world, which is a distinction that the breed still holds today. In fact, Persian cat started out as symbols, and became pets, after which they were prized for their show quality. Today, they are prized for their show and pet qualities, as many Persian owners never show their cats, while others are active exhibitors.

Train Your Cat for Behavior Problems and Basic Commands

train your catYou want to train your cat to come, sit, and stay. You can also train your cat not to scratch at things. When you are teaching your cat to not scratch, sometimes they seem like they are pawing at you and they start scratching you. On this certain behavior you can softly stroke their paw to help retract their claws. When their claws have been retracted, you can tell them good kitty in a reassuring voice. They do not realize that this is a bad thing that they are doing and they are not trying to hurt you. The reassuring and the praise should not be followed with food. This will show them that this is one thing that will be expected of them at all times, and it is not a trick. You are going to have to continually work with them on this for a few weeks. They are not going to scratch on the first time you do this. By you telling your cat that they are a good kitty and paying attention to them is a good thing to do.

To ensure good behaviors you should make sure that you handle your cat gently. Do not rough house with your cat this can show them that it is ok to scratch, bite and just to be mean. Cats can be quite finicky; by being rough with them, they can associate this with aggressive behaviors. Such as biting at your hand, or scratching you. If you choose to play with your cat, you should use one of their toys to show its ok to bite, scratch at their own toys. While you are playing with your cat, if they scratch you it is not their fault. Accidents happen, do not discipline them for this action. They think that you are trying to play, you will not get anywhere but confusing your cat.

Here are some tricks that you cannot train your cat. If you want, your cat to “stay” you should start out by taking your cat in a secluded room, one with no distractions and preferably before dinnertime. Before you do this, you should get some healthy treats to reward them. The reason you should do this before dinnertime is so they will have a bit more of an edge to do what you want so they can get their treat. The next thing to do is put them on a surface that will bring you and your cat eye to eye. When your cat starts to wander off, call out their name in a stern voice and tell them to stay. Put your hand up as to say stop. After your cat does this, you should reinforce it by giving him a bite of the treat. After the cat is done, you should allow him/her to get distracted again and then tell them to stay. You should do this about 4 to 5 minutes per day, with 2 or 3 training sessions.

The next trick that you can try is “come”. This should be easy; you have already taught your cat to stay. He now knows when you are teaching him something that there is going to be yummy rewards. You can start trying this when your cat is in another room, call them by their name, and say come. Make sure to try to say it in a fun playful voice. That is one big key as well as when they do come by you. You should always have a treat or something for them. You asked them to do something, give a little back. Make this a fun loving game for you and your cat.

Some important things to remember is young cats are the easiest to train. Do not make your training sessions any longer than 5 minutes, per session. This can make the cat become uncooperative and irritable. Make sure you reward your pet, if they do ask you may ask. Another thing is to make sure that you always end your training sessions on a positive note. Hugs and treats are the best way to show your cat that you care. These are simple but effective ways on how to train your cat.
