Cats are very cute, cuddly and help lower the blood pressure and who can deny the pleasures of owning a pet! They can become great companions and keep you entertained. However, just the way human faeces is harmful for us in every way, so is the excretion left in the kitty-litters boxes.
Humans can contract diseases that can not only harm you physically but can be fatal too. One disease is the E-Coli virus that can have negative effects on both human and animal digestive systems and the urinary tract as well. Antibiotics are needed to eradicate the e-coli bacterium.
Another potentially fatal disease is Toxoplasmosis. The bacteria that cause it are also found in cat feces. If the kitty litter box is not cleaned daily, the bacteria can travel from the box onto the paws of the cat and infect humans. It can cause fetal deaths in pregnant women. In seniors and children, who tend to have a weaker immune system, these bacteria can attack the body, causing severe diarrhea, high fever, and other symptoms. One very disturbing fact about these bacteria is that it may cause suicidal tendencies, more so in women than men.
It is not just the feces in the litter boxes, but cat urine if very harmful to human health. When litter boxes are left uncleaned for a long time, the urine emits ammonia. This gas is known to cause allergies in humans. Symptoms could be itching, nausea, cough, and headaches.
